What’s Up Wednesday – 24.02.22 (a day late)

1: What we’re eating this week:

I just ate 4 donuts because I saw someone eating donuts on YouTube. That’s how pregnancy cravings work.

As for our meals this week, they’re all over the place. I haven’t made a decent meal plan and so we’re just winging it and making whatever we have the ingredients for. Rui made some tuna lasagna on Monday, which we had for dinner on Tuesday and Wednesday as well. Today I made some pasta and we have leftovers for both Rui’s lunch tomorrow and our dinner tomorrow evening.

2: What I’m reminiscing about:

January. I feel like I had my shit together in January and was super organized and productive. Not so much in February.

3: What I’m loving:

Getting the house ready for the baby and buying all her things.

Our prenatal classes. Just had our 4th class yesterday and learned A TON about breastfeeding.

Having shorter hair.

All the baby kicks.

Random people noticing that I’m pregnant and being extra nice.

4: What we’ve been up to:

Getting everything ready for the baby.

Visiting my in laws last weekend.

Unfortunately, attending a funeral on Wednesday. Even though it was a very sad day, we got to spend time with family and to see our cousins who are here from the US to attend the funeral.

5: What I’m dreading:

Rosa getting spayed soon. I absolutely cannot deal with health issues/procedures when it comes to animals. Fortunately, my husband knows how anxious it makes me, so he’s taking her by himself.

The third trimester of pregnancy and whatever crazy symptoms I’ll soon be dealing with.

Whatever is going on with Russia and Ukraine. Very scary.

6: What I’m working on:

My “things to get done before baby” list.

My February book review.

My “February goals” review.

7: What I’m excited about:

A new month and a fresh start.

Spring.

Getting everything ready for the baby.

Spending time with family and friends.

8: What I’m watching/reading:

I’ve just finished reading The Plum Tree by Ellen Marie Wiseman, which I absolutely loved. I’m currently reading When Never Comes by Barbara Davis but I’m not sure I like it yet.

As for what I’m watching, nothing spectacular or useful. Reality TV, mostly. Married At First Sight Australia, 90 Day Fiancé and Love is Blind.

9: What I’m listening to:

Nothing. Except for the music we listened to on our 2 hour trip to visit Rui’s family. I came up with this game where we’d each choose one random year and play one of the most famous songs of that year. It was quite fun.

10: What I’m wearing:

If I’m home, either pajamas or leggings and a sweater. If I’m going out, a dress.

11: What I’m doing this weekend:

Friday: Appointment with an endocrinologist in the morning; Lunch with my mom and sister; Trip to IKEA in the afternoon;

Saturday: Cleaning the house; Laundry; Assembling furniture and moving things around the house; Hosting dinner for my friend Catarina, her husband and their daughter.

Sunday: In the morning, Rui is training for the half marathon with a friend; We’re then having lunch with said friend and his wife.

12: What I’m looking forward to next month:

Spring.

A bigger bump.

New ultrasound.

What’s Up Wednesday – 26.01.22 (a day late)

1: What we’re eating this week:

I’ve only started meal planning this year, and so this has been the first month where I’ve been actively planning all our meals and doing all the cooking. My husband used to be the cook but I’ve now taken it over for the time being, since I have more free time. Also, I’ve been excited to try some new recipes.

We’re both home (he’s working from home, I’m on medical leave) so we always have dinner together. For lunch, which is always leftovers, we each grab our lunch and eat it separately.

A simple meal of sautéed veggies with tuna.
Salmon Wellington – a new recipe. It was very yummy but a bit too salty.
What we call a Russian salad. Not sure it’s even Russian, though.

2: What I’m reminiscing about:

The time before Christmas. I miss our blue Christmas tree (husband’s idea), the Christmas atmosphere and the planning. It was a special Christmas because it was our first time as hosts. Both our families came and we had a really great time.

3: What I’m loving:

Buying all the baby things and getting ready for our baby girl. I need to be as organized as possible and to plan everything in detail, at least the things I can control. I spent a few days researching baby products and coming up with a list and budget and I’m now in the process of buying everything we need. I’m also planning the nursery (which is actually half a room, as I need to keep the other half as my office) and trying to come up with something cute and affordable.

The glorious weather we’ve been having for the past few weeks. It feels like spring.

4: What we’ve been up to:

Besides all the baby planning, we’ve been trying to decide if we’ll be going on a babymoon or if we’ll just skip it or postpone it.

Rui has been training for a half marathon while I prepare to go and walk a 5k. I’ll be 7 months pregnant so fingers crossed I’ll be able to make it.

5: What I’m dreading:

My driving lesson this afternoon. I always get super nervous before each one.

My glucose challenge test in a couple of days.

6: What I’m working on:

I’m taking a new course, which is hard to explain what it is really about because it’s something super specific to my country. It basically means I’ll be a certified trainer and able to provide certified professional/corporate training.

We’ll be starting our birth preparation course next week.

7: What I’m excited about:

Blogging again.

Dinner with two of my best friends this evening. One of my friends is visiting from Ireland and I’m super excited because I haven’t seen her since September.

8: What I’m watching/reading:

I’ve just finished reading Sold on a Monday by Kristina McMorris, which was a really good read. I gave it 4 stars. I’m starting The Keeper of Happy Endings by Barbara Davis tonight.

Rui and I are currently watching season 6 of This is Us and season 1 of And Just Like That, while patiently waiting for season 6 of Outlander. By myself, I’ve been watching season 11 of Call the Midwife.

9: What I’m listening to:

True crime podcasts as usual.

10: What I’m wearing:

At home, I wear mostly pijamas, leggings, sports bras, large t-shirts and sweaters.

If I’m going out, I’ll wear the one pair of jeans that still fits or a dress.

11: What I’m doing this weekend:

Boring stuff like house cleaning and laundry. Maybe going for a couple of walks.

12: What I’m looking forward to next month:

Valentine’s Day!

Being in my third trimester.

My next doctor’s appointment/ultrasound where I’ll get to see my baby.

Love,

Cheila

What’s Up Wednesday and Good News!

What’s Up Wednesday

Dinner: Small piece of grilled turkey and a salad. Fresh homemade orange juice.

image
Lunch: Pieces of leftover chicken, cherry tomatoes from our garden, frozen baby carrots, cucumber slices and an orange.

image
Breakfast+Lunch+Snack: Slice of Portuguese bread with crunchy peanut butter and banana slices, frozen baby carrots, an apple, jello and a decaf latte with almond milk.

image
Dinner: Codfish rice (brown rice) and a salad.

image
Breakfast: Plain Greek yogurt, teaspoon of strawberry jelly, banana and peach slices, assorted seeds.
What I’m reminiscing about:

Nothing much. I went to my friend’s apartment last week, which is our old apartment and some memories came to mind.

What I’m loving:

My diet, my blog, going to the pool, watching movies and documentaries. Something else I’ll tell you soon.

What we’ve been up to:

We went to the pool yesterday, we watch movies together and cook together. I’ve been trying to be more active on social media, get organized when it comes to blogging, catching up with your posts, answering old comments and trying to be healthier.

What I’m dreading:

I was dreading having to read Harry Potter, but now I freed myself from such task.

What I’m working on:

The usual. My health, both physical and mental and my July goals.

What I’m excited about:

Going to the beach and to the pool.

What I’m watching/reading:

I’ve been watching a few documentaries, The Godfather, and some YouTube videos. I’m currently reading Death With Interruptions by the Portuguese author and Nobel Prize winner, José Saramago.

What I’m listening to:

Spotify. A few of the moods playlist. Relax and Unwind and The Most Beautiful Songs In The World.

What I’m wearing:

The usual. But right now? A red nightgown from Primark as a dress. Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere.

What I’m doing this weekend:

Maybe swimming and meeting my friends.

What else is new:

So, this is where the good news come.

First: Remember I told you we could not spare the money for my tuition and that I couldn’t take my exams? Well, Rui went through our accounts and saving and did his magic and decided we can afford it and not become homeless (kidding).

Second: My phone is shit, my camera is shit. My phone was super slow and freezing all the time and doing crazy stuff and the camera quality was a little shitty. My camera is from 2013 and apparently not so good anymore, especially with colors. So we decided to buy me an iphone (no, we’re not reach, we bought it through my service provider plan. Isn’t it how everyone buys iphones? Or you just get there and pay 400 or 800€.

I bought the iphone SE 32GB and I’m in love. It’s so fast, so user-friendly, so easy, so amazing. I bought the gold version:

l_10150893_001

I was super lucky because it was the last one at the store in this color. And even luckier because they were offering  a big discount for this phone.

I was in desperate need of a good phone as I use it so much for EVERYTHING. Calls, text messages, whatsapp, Skype, WordPress, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, to receive and send emails from all of my accounts and more. When I worked, I 100% depended on my phone and I imagine it will be like that again when I go back to work.

I’m very happy about these two things. Time to finish my post.

What about you?

Have you received any good news lately?

What is something that you’re loving right now?

Thank you so much for being so patient through this blogging break. Love you all.

What’s Up Wednesday

What’s Up Wednesday

Please remember that this post was created by Shay Shull and that I first saw it on Hannah’s blog. A few other friends do it too: AngelaLee and Cherylene. If you do it too or if you want to do it, let us know, so we can check your post. Also, don’t forget to mention the creator, I have done that mistake.

What we’re eating this week:

We’re trying to eat healthier, especially me. We have tonnes of fruits and vegetables (in a controlled amount, so they won’t spoil) and we plan on using them. We’re also eating fish over meat (we only have turkey and some pork), and only wild-caught fish. I bugged Rui so much at the supermarket to ONLY GET WILD-CAUGHT FISH that he decided to obliged and we only bought that kind. I thought you could only pick with salmon, but apparently we have so much wild-caught fish to choose from here. Am I saying “wild-caught fish” too much? I know, I know. Yesterday Rui made Russian salad (with tuna) and there are enough leftovers for tonight’s dinner. Tomorrow we’ll have grilled turkey steaks with brown rice, sautéed white cabbage (his mom sent us a huge cabbage that we need to eat before it goes bad) and a salad and, on Friday, we’re probably have grilled salmon (wild-caught haha) and a salad.

I’m doing my best to stay away from sugar and dairy. I’ve bought brown sugar and that’s the only thing I will use, in a small amount. No more Stevia, unless I decided to buy certified pure and organic and to make sure it doesn’t mess with my insulin levels – that’s the rumor. I only add 1/3 of a tablespoon of honey to my oatmeal and only a little bit of milk. For my frapuccinos, I used to do a cup full of milk and then some coffee and ice. Now I do 1/3 of the cup coffee, then ice and whatever room there’s left is for milk. I’m drinking tonnes of water, eating all the veggies and way less carbs and fats.

What I’m reminiscing about:

Nothing, I think. I’m more focused on the present and future.

What I’m loving:

My diet, my blog, my plants, my lists, my dishwasher, my home office, good sleep, having only one Facebook account and only one Instagram account, interacting more on social media.

What we’ve been up to:

I’ve been doing a general internet cleanse.

  • I announced on my personal Facebook that I would only use the account that I use for my blog. I followed everyone I was interested in, asked them to like my Pink for Days page and then received a few friend requests. Again, I’ve only accepted the ones I wanted to. Then, last night, I deleted my personal Facebook account that I had since 2010. Didn’t even blink. I couldn’t manage two so, using my blog account, I can post both for my real friends and family and for my followers at the same time. Everyone can see what I post and what’s going on the blog.
  • I announced on my personal Instagram that I was going to shut down the account and keeping only the one associated to my blog. I followed who I was interested in keep following, unfollowed some people I didn’t know in real life or from the blogging world (otherwise I don’t have time to focus on your Instagram posts, the ones I WANT to check) and then, a few hours ago, I deleted my old Instagram account.
  • I unfollowed a bunch of people I didn’t know, on Twitter, just to clean up a bit and to be able to keep up with you guys.
  • I announced on Facebook that I have a YouTube account, in case anyone is interested in subscribing.
  • I deleted all of my phones old photos. No, I don’t save my meal or plant photos.
  • I unfollowed blogs that were inactive;
  • I unsubscribe to junk mail on all of my email accounts (I have 6 but only really use 3 or mostly 2 right now, since the other three are for work and the other is for my university emails)
  • I unfollowed a few people on Bloglovin.

I still want to go through my Skype, Messenger, Whatsapp and contact list on both my phones.

This is SO liberating, I highly recommend and general cleanup.

What I’m dreading:

Nothing. Let it happen. I can deal with it.

What I’m working on:

Usual. The garden, the house, getting back to reading and watching movies, making a habit tracker, using my planner again, getting better at taking pictures (no results, though), getting healthy and feeling good.

What I’m excited about:

We’re having dinner with a couple we love and that we have been friends with for a few years on Saturday. Shoe shopping for Mr.R. I’m a simple girl with simple needs…not.

What I’m watching/reading:

I’ve watched Zodiac and half of Apolo 13 last weekend. I’m reading the second book on the Harry Potter series.

What I’m listening to:

Trying to get back into my Spotify account.

What I’m wearing:

Usual. Old workout leggings and T-shirts, shorts, light dresses, my blue romper, pajamas and sports bras.

What I’m doing this weekend:

Go to a dinner and chilling.

What else is new:

Nothing. It rained today, actually.

Now before I go:

  1. Have you submitted anything to the first issue of Bumblebee Magazine? 3 days left. Are you going to miss out on being part of the first issue?

Health for days journey – May 24th (It’s my blog’s 4-month anniversary edition)

Warning: Really long post ahead. Kind of worth reading

I started this blog on January 24, 2017.

I cannot believe I have been doing this for 4 months. I never thought I would go on after a few days because this was not my first blog (nor the second or third) and, with all of them, I had gotten bored after a few days. I guess the timing was right this time. I’m still here, writing almost every day and loving every minute of it.

cake-924836_640

I was looking for a post on my 3-month anniversary but I couldn’t find one. Did I forget to do one? Was I too busy? Am I too blind to find it? Probably. I would like to compare my numbers but I guess I can’t. Not for showing off. Never. I do this to show you the growth of my blog, to be honest and open and out there. Maybe I can inspire you in any way? Maybe you’re super nosy like me and like to read this type of post? I also do it for myself, as a way of keeping track of things. You know I write everything down. I love to go back to it and analyse. Since I don’t have a post to report the changes in one month and I don’t want to go back and do the math, I’ll give the numbers from the beginning, showing you what I have managed (or been lucky enough) to accomplish in the last 4 months.

Facebook: (I have no idea? It only gives you a monthly overview. I think)

Bloglovin: 58

Twitter: 184

Pinterest: 124

Instagram: 192

Overall, I think things have been going well and that my blog has been somewhat successful. There are a few things I would like to improve and I’ll give you a list of those as well, because you know I have no intention of only showing the good parts.

Pink for days improvement list:

  • Turn followers into readers. Yes, many of you have told me not to bother about the fact that I have so many followers but only about 300 or so readers. But it does bother me. I have worked in a clothing store and they would talk about conversion a lot. Converting a client into a buyer. I want to convert a follower into an active reader.
  • Be more consistent, just a little: You’ll never tame my posting urges, that’s for sure. Nor will you stop me from cursing, being the #queenofTMI or saying whatever I want. But I could be a little more organized. Maybe have a scheduled hour for my Health for days journey post and for the evening update? Maybe 10 a.m and 10 p.m? That’s an idea. I also know that I’ll have the Guest Post Sunday going but maybe I should have a scheduled hour for it to be posted? I need to start and be consistent with my Wednesday Meal Plan and Recipe Share which I haven’t even started yet.
  • Include my own photos and take better ones: I won’t stop posting stock photos anytime soon. They’re easy to find, professional looking and clean while mine are shit. I will, however, try to take more and better photos to share along with my posts.
  • Be more active on social media: I’m SO bad at this. I don’t understand Facebook at all. How can it help my blog? I have tried to join a few Facebook groups a few months ago but I got nothing from them. They are confusing and the bloggers there just seem too professional for my taste (I feel like a peasant) and I get bothered by the constant notifications. I like to tweet but I’m not very good at it either. I would like to use Pinterest more, as I have been ignoring it a bit and I would like to be better at commenting and liking your Instagram photos but honestly, most of the time I don’t even see them. I would like to be better and more present. I will work on this as soon as I can. I will probably be using Buffer to schedule social media posts. Does anyone have tips? I’m pretty useless and ignorant when it comes to social media.
  • Be a better follower and reader: This is absolutely crucial to me. I want to be up to date with your posts and contribute with good, flattering and constructive comments but, sometimes, all I have time for is “I love this post, great work”. I’m sorry about that. I DO read your posts, but I either don’t have to comment on everyone’s articles and just like them (which breaks my heart) or I just leave a quick comment and feel stupid. I’ll promise I’ll try to get better.

Now, as this is also a health for days journey post, I will share my to-do list for today, as I usually do:

(left from yesterday, aka shame on you bitch)

  • Catch up on my blogging challenge posts;
  • Make a new schedule for June (need some intensive studying);
  • Clean the kitchen: Put away dry dishes, wash dishes, clean fridge (it’s so full of things, I really need to make an inventory and meal plan), clean shelves, table and floor;
  • Make my bed, air the bedroom and water bedroom plants;
  • Laundry (I’m on it. The weather is perfect)
  • Take my supplements;
  • Drink 1,5 l of water (MANDATORY) – If this is not done you will die!!!
  • Do 20 minutes of yoga (MANDATORY) – also life threatening when not done!!
  • Try Azra‘s tip of mixing my conditioner and my mask and leave them on my hair for 2 hours before washing;
  • Do some gardening;
  • Read blogs;

For today:

  • Take care of house plants (dry leaves, water, clean, etc.);
  • Put laundry away;
  • Tidy up living-room;
  • Meal plan;
  • Cook dinner;

Now, something new. Hannah from https://sassygirljourney.wordpress.com/ did this post a few weeks ago and today I thought it was really cool, so I shall do it today, linking up to her lovely blog.

What’s Up Wednesday

wuwquestions-edit-969x1024

What we’re eating this week:

I’ll tell you what I’m making this week (Wednesday to Wednesday) later, with detail but I’m thinking some vegetable soup, some roasted chicken, lots of vegetables, some eggs and whatever I have on the fridge that needs to be eaten before it spoils.

What I’m reminiscing about:

Preparing students for their college admission exams. I miss talking about Camões and Fernando Pessoa for 6 hours every day. I’m not weird at all.

What I’m loving:

OMG! Plants! I’m officially crazy plant lady. We went to the store last night and they were having a sale on plants. One of them looked super sad and about to die and I had to rescue her. She’s now happily catching some sun, after much a much-needed drink of water. And then I saw one that was looking super healthy and beautiful and about to sprout some flowers. I have no idea what they look like and I was intrigued so I bought her for just a little over 1€.

What we’ve been up to:

The usual. Rui works and takes care of his veggie garden and blog. I do whatever around the house and garden and blog and we eat pizza and do stuff together. Oh and we bicker. Usually about very important stuff. Not.

What I’m dreading:

Preparing for my German exam. It’s the only exam I fear.

What I’m working on:

My health, a good studying schedule for June, my garden and plants, the house.

What I’m excited about:

Summer and going to the beach!! We live 10 minutes away. Last Summer I was so sick I could not go to the beach because I was ashamed of being fat. I’m still to fat but I don’t care at all and will rock my sexy one piece, big boobs and cellulite.

What I’m watching/reading:

I’m half way through about 4 books. What a shame. I need to start reading. The second Harry Potter book is one of them. I’m watching a certain show… which the 5 episodes were accidentally leaked… cough, yes I’m a pirate. I’ve started Big Little Lies, I’m shamefully watching Married at First Sight. I’m accidentally watching American Ninja Worrier and Ink Master because the mister likes it. We watch Portuguese Kitchen Nightmares together and yesterday we watched The Girl On The Train. We liked it.

What I’m listening to:

To be honest, I forget music exists. But when I listen I’m down with the La La Land soundtrack.

What I’m wearing: (sexy question, huh?)

Dark blue work out leggings with a pink and light blue strike from top to bottom, turquoise old t-shirt that used to belong to Rui. Classy and fashionable.

What I’m doing this weekend:

Rui is going to a wedding and I’m seeing my best friend Catarina who is here from Austria. I’m so excited!!

What I’m looking forward to the next month:

Studying for exams and my mom and grandmother’s birthday. Also, it’s International Children’s Day and my mom gives us a present. Yes, we’re 21 and 25. We’re still her babes.

What else is new:

I have to go pee.

Would you like to join me for this? Just tag me so I can read it!! What’s up??

P.S Sorry but you will have to endure my 3 late blogging challenge posts today;

P.S.S I’m leaving all my late award posts to do in June;

P.S.S I will be announcing the winner party goers tomorrow!!

That’s all… for now (threatening voice)

xx
