Q&A – Answering Your Questions (08.04.2018)

Georgia – Midnight Madness

What is your biggest tip for getting over writer’s block?

  • I’ve been through writer’s block so many times, really. Then there’s those moments when I just don’t feel like blogging. I used to feel super guilty and I still do sometimes, but I’ve learned to accept that I cannot force it. So here’s my tip: Step away from it. Don’t do it. Forget about it for a while. It’ll come back, trust me. This is what works for me, honestly. I just ignore it and focus on other things until I feel like writing again. The trying and trying and pushing is only going to bring feelings of frustration. Does anyone have any other tips to share with us?

Shannon – Kittyp0p

Do you ever take people’s suggestions on listening to new bands/artists?

  • I’m actually really bad at this. I’ve been listening to the same songs for the past fifteen years and I NEVER like a song or artist at first. I know I’m probably missing out on great music. Shannon, I’d love some recommendations, dear! Everyone else, would you like to recommend some of your favorites?

Cory – Cory Melancon

What’s your favorite way to relax after a stressful day?

  • My favorite way is get into the tub while listening to some relaxing music. Unfortunately, our current house doesn’t have a tub, only a shower. Other ways I relax is by eating something yummy (they don’t call it comfort food for nothing) while watching some movie or show with Rui and Rosa on the couch or going to bed super early and listen to my favorite podcasts. What about you, how do you relax?

Azra – Simple Serenity

What are your thoughts lately on blogging?

  • I think things have changed a little in the past year but it is my fault, I haven’t been as present or as active as I was at first so naturally my views have drop and my growth has slowed down significantly.

Do you love it or find it stressful?

  • Honestly, I neither love it nor find it stressful at the moment. I mean, I do love it but not as much as I used to when I first started. I used to find it stressful because I thought I had to keep up with a certain rhythm and standard which I don’t anymore. I’ll never be the blogger who plans and writes three weeks of posts in advance.

What is your current favorite beauty product?

  • This Noreva Sensidiane AR CC Cream SPF30. It is pigmented enough to hide my redness but not heavy at all. 30 is a great SPF and it is super easy to apply. After so many years of looking for a good foundation I think this is it for me.

Which movie would you recommend everyone to watch?

  • I have a few favorites I definitely recommend, if you want something more recent and not those huge classics everyone knows and most of us love, which I would usually recommend:
  1. Hacksaw Ridge
  2. The Light Between the Oceans
  3. La La Land
  4. Manchester by the Sea
  5. The Big Short
  6. The Martian
  7. Room
  8. The Age of Adeline
  9. Interstellar
  10. Still Alice
  11. The Theory of Everything
  12. Boyhood
  13. 12 Years a Slave
  14. The Book Thief
  15. Dallas Buyers Club
  16. The Impossible
  17. Gone Girl
  18. We Need to Talk About Kevin
  19. The King’s Speech
  20. Brokeback Mountain

Who is one person in your life right now who could do with a bit of extra love? Give them a quick shout-out!

  • I think my mom. She deals with so much and takes care of everyone’s crap. I wish I could help more. But she’s the strongest person I know and a true optimist, she’ll always be fine and outlive us all.

Diary of a twenty year old – That Diary

What keeps you going? In blogging, and in life in general?

  • In blogging, the community, first of all. I really want to be a part of this community. Secondly, the fact that I began something and didn’t give up. I’ve been going on for over a year and I’m proud of my blog. I’ve always wanted to be a blogger. In life, the three people I love the most in the whole world. My mom, my sister and Rui. Then, my goals, the person I want to be and what to accomplish. The fact that I like to be productive is what keeps me going during the day.

The Beyoutiful Gal – Beyoutiful

100 Questions Tag – Borrowed from Brooke Jade!!

I saw this lovely post on Brooke Jade’s blog 100 Questions Tag and just loved it!! It was so nice reading about her. I miss this kind of post so I asked if I might be tagged and do it and she kindle said “yes”!! Thank you for the inspiration, dear!!

1.) What’s your favorite season?

Fall.

2.) Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, and find line 4.

I don’t have a book here, so I’ll go to my kindle (on my phone), find one of the books I’m reading and get back to you.

So I opened The Player: The Wedding Pact #2 by Denise Grover Swank. I read the first book and liked it, even though this is not really my favorite genre. I decided I would buy the second and have yet to start it.

At the moment, I would focus on helping the victims of the wildfires that destroyed such a big part of my country this year. Some people lost EVERYTHING, so I would help them in building new houses, furnishing them and getting back on their feet.

Hey, hey – Q&A (Part II)

  1. Favorite day of the week?

Friday afternoon. The beginning of the weekend, endless possibilities. Knowing you’re going to have two whole days just for yourself. Love the feeling.

  2. What is your favorite quote and why?

“Be the change you want to see in the world” because I believe that every single one of us matter, when it comes to doing our part to make the world a better place for everyone. We should lead by example and contribute as much as we can. I also love the adapted “Good things come to those who work their asses off and never give up” as a substitute for “Good things come for those who wait”. I firmly believe in hard work and in doing your best to achieve your dreams. I think people can do anything they put their minds to, if they work really hard and never give up. I believe in people, but they have to believe in themselves and really do the work, the effort, the sacrifice. You can only say you’ve tried if you’ve done every possible thing, tested every possibility and used every drop of your strength.

  3. If tomorrow you woke up rich, what would be the first thing you do or buy?

To be completely honest, the first things would be selfish things. I would start preparing to get into medical school, as I would finally have no money worries and could pursue that dream. I would start thinking about getting pregnant, because it’s another of my dreams that I cannot yet reach because of money and other issues. I would make sure I had an amazing house and that my money was well taken care of. Then I would make sure my family and friend’s and Rui’s family and friends would never have to worry about money again. I would travel and schedule a few trips. Finally, I would set up a charity, with different departments, to help different causes. I would want to support teenage moms, single moms and dads, orphans, animals, people who suffer from abuse, and people who want a chance in life but don’t have the money to make it happen. I would help people find jobs, homes and fund some people’s education. I would do as much as I can to help as many people as I possibly could. I would be so happy doing it.

  4. What are your 3 favorite books? And what kind of books do you like to read?

I love classics. I always go for classics, they are my favorite. My three favorite books are Wuthering Heights, The Great Gatsby and Little Women. I love many classic authors such as Jane Austen, The Bronte sisters, Francis Scott Fitzgerald, D.H. Lawrence, Virginia Woolf, Daniel Defoe. I also love Pearl. S. Buck and surprise: Some of Danielle Steel’s books. She’s not really my type, but I like her period novels. She has a good one called No Greater Love.

  5. What is something strange or unusual you used to do as a child?

I didn’t have a very happy childhood so I remember feeling lonely a lot. I would not sleep at all at night because I was scared, so I would spend the whole night sitting in the hallway, listening to the other people in the house sleep. I also went by a hypochondriac phase, where I was always thinking I was sick and would die very soon. My mom was working in Germany, because she was a single mom and needed to support my sister and I, so I stayed with my grandparents. They were not the type that would allow you to go to their bed or that would console you after a bad dream or a night terror, so I had no one to comfort me at night.

  6.  Would you rather live in a big city with bright lights, lots of energy and action, or a quiet countryside with rolling green fields?

I hoping to have a farm one day!! For real, that’s the kind of life I want for myself. I love the place where I live now because it’s countryside, but we are 30 minutes away from the big city, 30 minutes away from the Mountains and 7 minutes away from the beach. Perfection. We hope to buy a farm here in the next few years. The location is perfect and there are a lot of old little farms to buy and fix up. What a dream!

  7. What would you sing at a karaoke night?

I would probably not sing at all. I’m too shy to sing in public. But if I had to, I would go for James Morrison, I think. I know his lyrics by heart.

  8. What’s your favorite movie/series?

I could not choose a favorite movie, but I promise I will do a post soon, where I give you a list of my top 10 favorites or something like that, okay? For series, check here and here.

  9. What is your favorite comfort food?

    My cereal. Always!

  10. What is your favorite joke?

I will tell one my mom tells all the time and that I find funny.

A German guy, a Brazilian guy and a Portuguese guy are put in jail for 20 years. The cops ask them what they want to fill their cells up with. The German guy says books, so they bring a ton of books to him. The Brazilian guy says women, so they bring him women. The Portuguese guy says cigarettes, so that’s what they give him.

Twenty years go by and they decide it’s time to open the cells:

They open the German guy’s cell and an intellectual comes out, very intelligent, having read all of those books.

They open the Brazilian guy’s cell and a bunch of kids come out, since he had a lot of time to have children with all those women.

They open the Portuguese guy’s cell and a crazy guy comes out, holding a cigarette and asking “Does anybody have a lighter?”

Hey, hey – Q&A (Part I)

So, I asked for questions and you guys sure delivered. Now it’s my turn to do my part and answer them. Here it goes my first Q&A ever:

  1. What do you like about living in Portugal?

I love the weather, I get to see the seasons changes and it’s usually sunny, even in Winter. It can be freezing cold with a beautiful sunshine. I love how nice the people usually are, most of them are friendly. I feel safe here, we don’t have any problems with war or borders or foreign policy, which is more than many can say. It is a very beautiful countries with great places to go on vacation and everything is only a few hours away, since we are so small.

  2. What are some major life goals you have?

I would love to be a mom. That is one of my main goals, to have a family. I want to get married and have a bog family, I feel like I was born to be a mother and a wife. I would love to be a doctor, that is my biggest dream. I’m in the process of deciding if I go for it and try to follow my dream or not. (What do you guys think? 25? Too late?) If I don’t, I would like to be a University Professor and teach Literature, which is one of my passions. I guess you don’t know this because I haven’t been reading much so books are not a regular topic here, but English and American Literature are one of my specializations. I would also love to travel, to have a cozy place to call home and to live a calm, happy life, somewhere in the countryside.

  3. What/who inspires you to blog?

So many things, right now. Before I started, I wanted to be a blogger. I loved everything that word could possibly mean. I wanted to write, to be a writer and to have a voice. Then, I found it. Now, I’m motivated by other bloggers, by my life in general because I feel the need to blog in order to express myself, deal with some things and talk about different issues and also by my readers. Knowing you have the support of an audience changes everything. You know that someone values your words and ideas and so you keep going, because of them and how they make you feel.

  4. What’s your favorite food?

Any kind of pasta. Give me all the pasta and pizza and bread.

  5. How many countries have you been to?

This is something that makes me really sad and ashamed but, sadly, none. I’ve never had the opportunity to travel. When I was growing up I was too poor and didn’t have enough money. When I started to work I didn’t have time. Now I could find the time but money is tight so, I’m not going anywhere soon. I feel really ignorant because of this, especially when people around me start talking about their travels and I have nothing to say.

  6. What’s your favorite season?

    Fall/Autumn.

  7. If people came to your country on holiday, what one dish do you think they should try?

You know I will say codfish, don’t you. It’s our specialty. Try anything with codfish and you will be fine. If you don’t like fish, go for something like “Cozido à Portuguesa” or “Francesinha”.

  8. Do you have a plan for your blog’s future?

This is a really good question. When I started, I had the obvious goal – to grow and to eventually make money from my blog, to turn it into a business. But now, after I know what I like to write and the type of audience I have, I feel like my blog is too personal for that. It will never be something “commercial”. Could it head in that direction? I don’t think so. What can I sell? My honest and true thoughts and ideas and  my heart’s desires? I don’t believe there’s a market for that. So now, I want to get to people. Some have described me as inspirational. Am I? If so, I want to encourage other bloggers. I want to talk about the deep, though subjects and encourage others to do the same. I want to be there for other bloggers, I want to meet people, help people and just… keep writing.

  9. What language(s) do you speak and what language(s) you like to learn?

My native language is Portuguese. European Portuguese. I started to learn English when I was ten and I took it in University, up to a C2 level. I’m fluent in it. I’m not sure I can describe myself as bilingual, since I didn’t start with English at the same time I started to speak Portuguese but I can speak it and write it as well as Portuguese. My brain works in both languages. English is a big part of my life, since I’ve been teaching it since 2012. I had French for five years but I can’t remember anything. I’m currently learning German (A1 level) and Italian (A2 level). I can understand Spanish but not speak, same as French. I would love to learn more languages, maybe go back to French.

  10. Who inspires you?

In life? Smart, strong women. Moms. Stay-at-home moms, working moms, all kinds of moms. Women who work their butts every day. Women in general.

  11. What kind of food do you crave when you are not feeling too well?

If I’m really sick, chicken soup. Or tea and toast. If I’m just sad or tired, my cereal!!

  12. What do you consider to be your best talent?

Hmm… I can sing. But really, I’m good with people. I’m good at teaching and motivating people. I’m a very good teacher, that I know. And I’m good at taking care of people and organizing and planning things. I have no children yet, but I’m 100% mom.

  13. Do you prefer coffee, tea, or hot chocolate?

I love me some lemon time. But coffee, with milk and some stevia. Or a cappuccino.

  14. What is your favorite time of the year?

From September 1st to December 31st. It’s the beginning of the school year, it’s fall, my birthday, Rui’s birthday, cold weather, Christmas and New Years.

  15. Do you prefer iPhone or Samsung?

Neither. I mean, I like iPhone but it’s too expensive here. Samsung, I don’t even know if they’re good or not. I have an Asus phone, but it’s shit. I don’t really care about brand, I just want a good phone with a good battery life. Have yet to find.

  16. McDonald’s, KFC or Burger King?

McDonald’s all the way. Although I love Burger King’s fries. Never tried KFC.

  17. What are your opinions on a controversial man…Trump?

I’m not sure I should have an opinion, since I’m not American. Do I have the right to have a say on your politics? I wouldn’t normally say anything but, since I was asked, I’ll be honest as I always try to be. I don’t want to offend anyone so, If you voted for Trump, I fully respect that. This is just an opinion based on what I’ve seen. I basically think he’s a racist and is misrepresenting the country, acting like a toddler. Come on, he refused to shake Merkel’s hand. Is it because she’s German? Is it because she is a woman? Could be, he treats women like shit and has no respect for them so, doing politics with a women might not be his favorite. Or he simply doesn’t like her so he says no, like a child would. I don’t know.

  18. If you could pick one junk food to eat forever and one healthy food to eat forever, what would it be?

  19. What’s your favorite thing about Jesus?
