Some thoughts on Blogging

For the last few days, since I asked for questions for my Q&A and someone asked what do I expect for my blog in the future, I felt like I needed to share some thoughts on blogging with my readers, so you can understand with goes through my mind when I think about this little internet space of mine.

Awards:

First of all, I understand that some of you might be tired of all the Awards (I know they’re always the same, even my boyfriend and sister say they usually skipped them), because I do every single one I’m nominated for. My reasons are simple: I feel so happy and honored (when I started blogging I didn’t even know there was such thing) to be nominated that I must share that with my readers, that is my first reason. Secondly, I could never feel right if someone takes the time to think of me and nominate me for something and I just let it be. Respect and gratitude for the person who nominated me are my reason number two.

Not that I think that bloggers who don’t do them are disrespectful, not at all. I just think we have different ways of dealing with this type of post, both being okay. I can respect everyone’s opinion on the matter, I really do.

Nevertheless, if my readers are really, really tired of them, you can please tell me, as I’m always open to your opinions and love suggestions. Do you think I shouldn’t do them? Do you skip them? Please tell me now, as I have a bunch of them waiting to be posted.

Blogger Competitiveness:

This is a non-issue for me, since I’m not competitive at all. I’m happy when I reach 500 followers, I’m happy when YOU reach 5oo followers. There’s no other way for me. Blogging is a community and you are my friends, not my competition. I know that I’ve reached a good number of followers in a short amount of time and I know that some people who have been here long may not have as many, but it has NEVER crossed my mind that I’m better than them in any way. They are just numbers. Who knows why people follow? Who knows if they will stick around? Of course I’m happy to know that 500+ people followed my blog but I’m much happier to know about those 100 that always read, always comment, always support me, those who I consider my blogging friends. That’s what’s important for me – the community, the group, the help, the encouragement, the amazing people I got to know in these last two months. Without them, the number of followers means nothing for me. Without them, my number of followers is an empty accomplishment.

My Blog’s Future:

When this blog still existed only in my mind, I imagined I would someday be a great blogger and turn it into a business and make money from it. I didn’t know how people did it, and still don’t know. But I was going to do it. Fast forward two months and, here I am, thinking that this might never be anything more than a personal blog. Personal blogs don’t sell. I don’t try on new makeup or new clothes, I don’t DIY anything either. Not that I don’t like it or that I won’t do those things in the future, it’s just not where I am right now. I do love makeup and fashion and DIY and I hope to be a mommy blogger someday. My point is, even if or when I change my themes and start doing different things and addressing different issues, I don’t think I will ever be a great very well-known blogger, who makes money from my blog. It just looks too big for me.

That’s it, friends. Random things that were occupying my mind regarding my blog and the blogging word.

Do you have anything to say about it?

Over the next few weeks you can expect to read about my daily life and the changes I’m making as I spend my days fighting depression and trying to improve my health in general.

Is there something else you would like to read on this blog? I’m always open to suggestions!!

Love.

  1. I think you’re doing wonderfully with this blog, and I really enjoyed this post, especially the part about competitiveness and the number of followers/likes etc. It can be easy to compare yourself and try to ‘measure’ the success of what you’re doing, then get disheartened if/when you don’t do as well as others.x

    • I imagine that we can get discouraged by things like that, of course, but like I said I don’t care if blogger x has 2000 followers and I have only 500 if I have 100 amazing blogging friends! I much prefer to have some people who like me that just readers.

  2. I think you make very good points and it’s great that you have the mindset that you’ll do all the awards you’re nominated for. If I was ever nominated for anything I’d totally do them as well because someone took the time to do so! Personally I’ve liked them because it has been a great way to get to know a bit about you. 🙂

  3. I’m SURE you could be a very well-known blogger! I myself have no idea how you can get money from blogging (though that’s sounds awesome). And I totally agree with what you said on blogger competiveness! Followers are just a number–what counts are the support and the community. ❤

  5. I think that the best part of your blog is your honesty and openness in your writing, and your personality- it shows through really nicely:) you just seem so kind and thoughtful and just perfectly aware of your readers that it makes reading your posts and interacting with you so special! Not to mention that you’re open about your depression as well; that takes some bravery. Best wishes, xoxo, c.

  6. Love this so much. I’m not competitive either, so it’s always nice to hear when other bloggers are happy for each other rather than competing for likes/follows. Cuz that’s not what it’s about! Love this little blog community, great post! 😊

  7. You are doing so well with this blog and I’m so happy for you! You deserve all of this and you must be very proud! I agree what you say about it being about the community and not the person! I would love to see a daily routine or tips for exams post! Thank you x

    • Thank you so much for being such a loyal reader and dear, dear friend. I plan on showing a bit of that. Those are posts that I have been planning on doing. A day in the life, my morning and night routine, my skincare and makeup routine, what I eat in a day, how I manage my time being a working student. All of that is in the cards and will make its way into the blog soon.

  10. This is a wonderful post. People get caught up in the thought of making money using a blog, or really anything for that matter. You do what your heart feels. Share your life with us. We die to know people who don’t let their judgement hinder their minds. For me, I wish I had as many followers/readers as you, not for competition, but for awareness. I want to share thoughts of encouragement. And to be honest, everyone needs a little here and there. In light, continue what you do. It’s greatly appreciated.

  11. If you want to continue to accept awards, then do so. This is your blog after all. Personally, I don’t have any problem with award posts.

Some time ago, I have worked as one of the admins of a high traffic math blog before so I’m quite familiar on how blogs are monetized. I think that the entire process is a drag so I won’t even do it on my own blog. But if the opportunity arise, you should give it a try.

  12. I haven’t read this post before! It was interesting to read what you thought about your blog’s future a few months back 😀
Do you still feel the same about awards? Cause I love when I get nominated, but now I put them together in a big bonus round post, as doing one for each feels like I’m doing them too much you know?

  13. It is excellent what how fast your blog has grown in a short time. Like you I also don’t feel any competition with other bloggers. It it were a competition I wouldn’t be as happy doing what I do. What makes me happy the most is when people read my work, even if it’s just a few people.

  14. Loved this blog post, I started blogging 3 years ago, but very irregularly. The blog always was for my personal benefit. But lately I have started blogging more regularly and so enjoying it.
Do I ever think I’ll make money from it? No, but I do enjoy it. Especially, when someone comments or like my posts.
I love reading other people’s blogs. I love the inspiration you can get.
I know my blog probably never will be an awesome one, especially with my dyslexia showing in the writing. However, it’s fun.
I’m happy to see other people being popular, and I have learned a lot about what to write and how not to do it, just by looking at blogs.

I like your style of writing so keep on xx
