Say a prayer for Portugal, please.

Dear friends,

I come to you with a heavy heart. I believe you may haven’t heard about it, but Portugal is going through an extremely difficult situation right now. A tragedy has fallen upon us. Forest fires are killing and hurting our people or leaving them homeless.

The country is literally burning, with huge fires threatening many villages and towns.

The death count is 61 so far along with about 62 injured. And the number will probably go up, as the worst fires are yet to be controlled and many villages have yet to be checked for casualties. We’ve been going through hell.

My family, friends and I are all fine, lucky to be where we are, since the fires are threatening mostly the interior of the country. There’s a huge fire somewhat close to Rui’s hometown, so we’re not without worry and fear.

We have never been through such a tragedy and we’re currently mourning as a country.

Firemen, police, and civilians are doing whatever they can to control de fires that are country devouring acre after acre of forest and getting to houses and fully destroying towns.

Extremely high temperatures, wind and a thunder storm are mostly the culprits for our situation. Literally a series of unfortunate events and unfavorable conditions.

Will you please say a prayer for us? We need all the help we can get.

Thank you so much for reading.

  1. I have been following the news all day…horrifying…my thoughts are with the victims of this terrible fire. I once witnessed a fire close to the village of my Portuguese family, it felt like hell had opened its doors. We were lucky that they managed to extinguish the fire before it got too close to use. I will never forget the red sky and the ashes raining down.

  2. People plant trees for a reason, but to burn them down? May the fires be put out soon and everyone gets out unharmed.

  7. Thinking of you all ❤️❤️ such awful images on the news. They said there is one road that has taken many, reports saying it’s the road with people trying to get away. Thinking of Portugal 🇵🇹 with love

    • Oh yes, we are calling it the road of death. People where trying to escape but it was so foggy with all the smoke that people couldn’t even drive, some died because they were ran over by a car, there were accidents and then the fire came. What those people must have gone through, I cannot even imagine.

  8. We are having a minutes silence at 1100 in UK for the Grenfell tower in London. But I will also think of Portugal, Philippines and the victims of an attack in London last night where a van was driven into Muslims leaving a mosque.
