Health for days journey – May 15th (Crazy plant lady edition)

Hey there!!

It’s Monday. How are you guys handling that? Monday blues or super excited to start the week? Lazy or productive?

I NEED to be productive because I have a ton of things happening until the end of the month:

  1. We’re taking my sister, her friend and my brother-in-law to the “Semana Académica” which means “Academic week” that being a week before graduation, where students party and get drunk and there are concerts and things to do and it might be fun. I’ve never been to something like that and neither have the kids (Of course Rui has, he’s done a whole lot of partying in his days) and it should be fun. Then, the girls are coming to stay with us and will spend Thursday here with me.
  2. My parents-in-law are coming to stay with us for my brother-in-law’s graduation. They arrive Friday night and so I have to provide dinner.
  3. We have family lunch with them and maybe some other family members on Saturday, before the graduation.
  4. We have the graduation on Saturday at 2.30 p.m and then we’ll be out to dinner, possibly with family.
  5. On Sunday, my side of the family might come for lunch and so I need to provide lunch for 8 people.
  6. My in-laws leave on Sunday after lunch.
  7. On Tuesday (23rd) we’ll be going to the movies with my friends.
  8. On either Monday or Wednesday I might spend the day with a friend of mine who is on vacation, we might go to the beach.
  9. On Saturday (27th) Rui is going to a wedding, probably living on Friday night.
  10. On Sunday, I will meet my best friend Catarina who is here from Austria to attend a wedding.
  11. Ufff…

Also because I have people staying over, the house needs to be spotless and laundry needs to be done and put away, grocery shopping must be done, and I need to figure out what to feed people.

I need to make sure Rui’s things are ready for the wedding and that he is packed.

I need to bathe Rosa, to make her more presentable haha.

How the hell did I do this when I was working is still a mystery to me. I mean, I remember last June, when Rui’s parents came to stay with us, we were shopping until midnight and then woke up at 6 on a Saturday to clean the whole house in 3 hours, before they arrived.

Well, we have indeed been stretching ourselves too thin for a few years. No wonder I’m like this.

So for today, my task list is:

  • Scrub the bathroom from top to bottom. Make sure I have towels, toilet paper, tissues, soap, extra toothbrushes and everything the guests might need in a place where they can immediately see it and ready to use;
  • Wash the dishes I haven’t washed during the weekend. Clean the stove. Clean the open shelving, behind appliances and the floor. Wash Rosa’s bed;
  • Do some laundry, put away a basket that is already washed;
  • Change and make my bed;
  • Water the plants;
  • Read some blogs;
  • Read and answer comments;
  • Make dinner;
  • Organize my general to-do list;
  • Exercise;

I think this might be enough for today.

Can you believe I still haven’t started my exam preparation? There’s just to much to do, something always comes up.

Now, about the tittle of this post.

I’m currently obsessed with plants! Probably because, for the first time in my life, I can keep them alive. I have one in my bathroom, one on my dressing table, FOUR on my desk, and I’ve just bought 3 succulents yesterday. I have some outside too, but Rui takes care of those. I’ll show you pictures of my plants later.

Now, tell me about you.

Do you have a lot on your plate for today? For the next few weeks?

Are you a plant person? What are some of your favorites?

See you later.

xx

  1. Wow, I feel stressed just thinking about all the prep you have to do. You sound like an amazing host, though!
    I wish I could have house plants, but my cat will eat them all….

    • hahaha you have a vegetarian cat. My dog Rosa doesn’t touch the plants, thankfully. I try to be a good host because I hate going to stay at someone else’s home and need to ask or look for things, it can be uncomfortable so I just put things where people can find them 🙂

  2. I am trying my damnedest to keep my plants alive. All I buy are succulents these days, but thankfully I happen to love them. So plump and some many cute little varieties. I’m going to have to toughen up this week and make sure I’m prepared to eat cleanly every day. I don’t if chili counts, but I made a huge pot of it on Saturday.

    My other goal is to ride my bike each and every day. I’m loving it so much. Don’t know what took me so long. My washing machine is broken, so my laundry has been piling up to a scary degree. At some point this week I’ll have to lug it all down to the laundromat and get it taken care of. I’ll bring a book along, cause it’s gonna be a long one.

    Maybe you can make a couple of casseroles ahead of time so that a couple of the days you won’t have to worry about dinner after a day of partying. Stick in it the oven and done.

    • Yes! For Sunday at lunch we’re grilling out. Little prep work. Just need to fix some fries and salad! For Friday night I might follow you advice, for sure. Good idea. Just some meat, potatoes and veggies in the oven, salad on the side and done. It’s amazing that you’re focusing on your health. I don’t think chili is that bad unless you eat a ton of cornbread or nachos or something like that with it lol

      • I did have some brown rice with it on the weekends because, darn it, it’s the weekend. Both otherwise just beans and veggies mixed it. Sometimes I do ground turkey, but I’m trying to stay mainly on the vegetarian side these days, which is so difficult for me. Ugh

        • Brown rice is fine. It’s healthy. Don’t be too hard on yourself, a little meat is not gonna hurt you. Especially lean meats like turkey. Unless you’re doing it for moral reasons

            • I’ve been doing the same. One or two meals a week without meat or fish. But to be honest, just because it’s better for you, not because of moral reasons. But I was never a big meat eater anyway. I’m a carb person. I need carbs to feel full, I can eat just 2 or 3 bites of some kind of meat, which makes me feel my impact is not that big. Probably fooling myself but well..

  3. I’m feeling exhausted just reading your list even a little guilty because I have some laundry to do too. You definitely need to make some time to prep for exams somewhere in there. House work will always be there if it is not laundry it’s the dishes sometimes I just have to stop and just do other stuff and come back to that later. I know you’ll get it done. Some of us work better under pressure. 🙂

  4. You definitely have some busy times coming up! Nothing as exciting for me sadly, just two hospital appointments and one GP appointment, then hopefully pop out somewhere to celebrate having those out of the way! What’ll you be watching at the cinema, do you know yet? Maybe I’ll try a cinema trip soon 🙂 Good luck with your to-do list! x

    • We are going because during that week, tickets are 2,50€!! Instead of 6€. Really cheap. I think the movie about King Arthur. I’m not sure if it has a different name. Thank you so much!! Have a good week, my friend!

    • Hahaha it’s an excuse for the kids to party and get drunk before graduation. Anyway, we’ll just go to take my sister and watch the concerts, no booze for us

  5. I do have quite a few things on my to do list this week. I have a couple craft classes at library and Zumba. then relay for life on Saturday. maybe the zoo on Sunday.
    I am also a plant person but I can’t never seem to keep them alive!! I have a couple air plants that are minimal requirements which I love.

  6. Wow, you have a lot going on, Cheila! I understand. I have 3 nieces graduating soon and my mother-in-law will be here in 2 weeks to stay for 2 weeks. I always run around like a crazy person when people visit. Ugh.

    And plants… I am so not a plant person. I manage to kill every single one I’ve had. Very sad. But you keep it up! Sounds like you’re doing great.

    Hope you enjoy all your upcoming events! 🙂

    • So we both have a lot going on. I’m not sure I could handle someone staying for 2 weeks. I need my space too much. I was like that before, couldn’t keep a single plant alive. I guess they like this house better! I hope you have a great week. xx

Then again our lunch time.. make my son nap..time for my daughter to come.. pick her up..her lunch..wash dishes..son wakes up.. husband comes home..make tea and snacks.. walking or play time.. dinner preparation..wash dishes..then sit back to watch TV before sleeping 😴😴😉
